Lanterns Classes: Specialist vs Vanguard

Press B to open Stats, then look for the class panel in Lantern Build. Your class is derived from your allocation across Willpower, Intelligence, Energy, and Vitality; its name and bonuses appear alongside your attributes.

Unformed means a class has not yet formed. It is a starting state, not a lower-ranked combat class. Continue allocating points toward the attributes your build needs and check the class panel as you go.

Your class and your Corps are separate systems. Specialist and Vanguard describe attribute-based combat roles; Corps refers to your ring faction. See the Corps guide for ring choices and how their separate saves work.

Specialist’s bonus targets ranged and weapon construct damage. Vanguard’s offensive bonus targets Ram & Structural Force, alongside a separate defensive bonus. The two 6% bonuses affect different categories, so they are not interchangeable damage boosts.

Vanguard’s Damage Resistance is listed separately from Vitality’s Resist. Do not add the class’s 3% to a Vitality percentage and treat that sum as your total resistance.

• Favor Specialist for ranged and weapon construct offense. Its damage bonus directly supports that goal, and its role centers on precision attacks, advanced weapons, and projectile control. It is the more relevant direction when improving those attacks matters most to you.
• Favor Vanguard for ramming, heavy constructs, and taking hits. Its Ram & Structural Force bonus supports impact-focused play, while Damage Resistance gives it a defensive benefit for frontline fighting.

For a mixed loadout, prioritize the bonus that serves your main attacks and the situations you spend most of your time fighting in. A larger damage or health readout on a much more heavily invested character does not make its class the overall winner.

These allocations illustrate class states. All values below are allocated attribute points.

The Specialist allocation favors Willpower while also investing in Intelligence and Energy. At zero Vitality, this build has 100 Health and 0% Resist from Vitality, so copying it means accepting that survival tradeoff. Specialist also appears at 9/3/3/0, 16/6/5/0, and 17/7/6/0, in the same attribute order.

The Vanguard allocation represents a much larger point investment, with substantial Willpower plus Energy and Vitality. Use it to understand the build’s emphasis.
